چکیده

Cerebral ischemia of thrombotic or embolic origin is still a major cause of morbidity and m o r t a l i t y, mainly because the cellular mechanisms that lead to primary and secondary brain damage are still incompletely understood. This has stimulated many authors to develop experimental models to study the modification of biological and neurophysiological parameters in cerebral ischemia. The most common techniques are: – microsurgical occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) by transorbital approach (1,2); – intravascular embolization by microspheres or by homologous blood emboli (3-6); – photothrombosis induced by Rose Be n g a l dye (7). Effect of p-CPA Pretreatment on EEG Power Spectra in Experimental Open Brain Injury in Rats

Continuous four hours EEG (electroencephalogram) recordings and its power spectrum analysis using fast fourier transform (FFT) in urethane anesthetized male Charles Foster rats were performed in two groups: open brain injury and p-CPA (para-Chlorophenylalanine) pretreated before brain injury, respectively, and compared with the EEG power spectrum of control rats. The EEG power spectrum analysis...

An experimental model of brain ischemia combining hypotension and hypoxia.

An Experimental Model of Brain Ischemia Combining Hypotension and Hypoxia • A variety of experimental models for cerebral ischemia are currently available, but none are entirely satisfactory. We are reporting a model which combines hypotension, produced by intravenous Arfonad, with hypoxia, produced by respiring 4% oxygen. Rabbits used are awake but paralyzed with succinylcholine and ventilated...

Intensification of brain injury and blood-brain barrier permeability by short-term hypertension in experimental model of brain ischemia/reperfusion

Introduction: Arterial hypertension is one of the causes of stroke, and as one of the vasculotoxic conditions intensifies ischemic stroke complications. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of short-term cerebral hypertension on ischemia/reperfusion injury and pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. Methods: The experiments were performed on three groups of rats (N=36) Sham, cont...

Experimental brain ischemia: protection from irreversible damage with a rapid-acting barbiturate (methohexital).

Experimental Brain Ischemia: Protection from Irreversible Damage with a Rapid-Acting Barbiturate (Methohexital) • Experimental brain ischemia was produced in rabbits by coupling systemic hypotension and hypoxia. The animals were paralyzed with succinylcholine and ventilated mechanically. Durally implanted electrodes were used to monitor the severity of ischemia. Five minutes of an isoelectric E...

Effect of ellagic acid on oxidative stress duo to brain ischemia/hypoperfusion in male rat

Background & Aim: Free radicals are produced in ischemic processes. Nerve damage caused by free radicals may play a role in neurological diseases and antioxidants are protective activity. Ellagic acid is a polyphenol compound with antioxidant properties which is found in fruits like pomegranate, blackberry, and all types of mulberry. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of 14 days of oral ad...
